Myth VS Fact: Heat Dissipation
01 / 21 / 19

Some believe that LED Displays emit too much heat. This is not true.

The heat conducted of an LED Display is distributed efficiently throughout the display (some displays store heat in a sink), making it at a normal temperature. LED Displays are designed to convert higher percentage of electricity in to light, that is why they generate lesser heat.

Moreover, indoor and outdoor LED Displays nowadays are customized depending on the environment it will be used. For example, outdoor displays normally require air conditioning system, fan, or customized cabinet appearance like Inewvation Wind-Thru LED Displays, while Inewvation indoor displays use die-cast aluminum parts in manufacturing.

Did You Know? Ideal Brightness Level

Determining the appropriate brightness for your displays is important, as it affects the display’s visual performance, most especially, how your audience appreciate your digital display.

Nits is the unit of measurement of luminance or the intensity of visible light. One nit is equivalent to one candela per square meter (cd/m2).

Here are the common brightness requirements for indoor and outdoor displays:

Nowadays, most of the outdoor digital displays are equipped with light sensor that controls brightness either manually or automatically during the day and night.

Did You Know? Wind-Thru Series

Usually installed in building façades and billboards, Inewvation Wind-Thru Series has a unique module design for heat dissipation and wind load but blocks sunlight or any source of light from behind, which still display good visual reception.

With its smart module technology, the display achieves uniform color and brightness without re-correcting the chroma of the whole display when replacing modules. More than 35% of the screen is hollow, thus, effectively reducing wind load by 32%.

Inewvation Wind-Thru Series also has a fanless design with zero noise as it operates. It does not need air condition as its aluminum plate cover and hollow module have good heat dissipation. This unique module design is tested safe even in a salty environment.

Myth VS Fact: LCDs have LEDs

Most of the LED TVs on the market today are actually LCD TVs with an LED backlight. The LED backlight creates the light that allows LCD to produce visible images. In other words, LCD is the actual panel, while LED is the light source.

Did You Know? Viewing Angle & Distance
11 / 28 / 18

As the viewer/audience moves from the center, vertically or horizontally, or moves far from the display, the quality of images shown begins to lessen. The colors of the images will fade and the display’s brightness will somehow lessen.

Viewing angle and distance are vital in maintaining the quality of image and assuring viewability to audience. Viewing angle indicates up to what range, while viewing distance specifies how far the images on digital displays can be fully viewed, with the screen displaying consistent brightness and color, and not negative images.

The viewing angle is measured from one direction to the opposite, with a maximum of 180° for a flat screen display. On the other hand, pixel pitch (mm) of the LED screen is equal to the minimum best viewing distance in meters. Longer distances require less resolution and shorter distances require higher resolutions.

Did You Know? Resolution
11 / 16 / 18

Resolution is a factor in determining the video quality of an LED Display. It is expressed with the horizontal number of pixels followed by the vertical number of pixels and quoted as width x height (W x H), with the units in pixel.

An LED Display’s resolution can be calculated given its dimension (width and height) and pixel pitch.

If the dimensions are both in meters or any other unit, convert into millimeters, as to pixel pitch’s unit. Calculate the width and height’s resolutions by dividing separately to pixel pitch.

Example: A P10 LED Display with a dimension of 1700mm (W) X 1100m (H)

First, divide the width by the pixel pitch – 1700 (width) / 10 (pixel pitch). So, the width’s resolution is 170 pixels. Next, divide the height by the pixel pitch – 1100 (height) / 10 (pixel pitch). The resolution of the height would be 110 pixels.

Thus, the resolution of a P10 LED Display with a dimension of 1700mm (W) X 1100mm (H) is 170 x 110 pixels.

Did You Know? Pixel Pitch

Pixel Pitch in LED Displays indicates the amount of space between two diodes, a lower pixel pitch means a less space between diodes. This equates to higher pixel density and better screen resolution.

The distance between the diodes affect how we see the images on the display. For example, the higher the pitch of an LED screen, the better it looks from afar. High pixel pitch LED displays, ranging from 10-40 mm are best for billboards and locations that are high above the ground.

Did You Know? Refresh Rate
10 / 24 / 18

Refresh rate is the number of times a display refreshes the image/frame it shows per second. The faster or higher the refresh rate, the more times the image can update every second, the smoother the visual will look.

It is measured in Hertz (Hz), which is equal to 1/second. For example, 360Hz means it can draw 360 images per second. An LED display normally requires at least 360Hz. If it is lower than 360Hz, flickering of image will be noticeable.

In purchasing or using electronic devices, users may know their efficiency, and how to protect such products from possible damages through Ingress Protection (IP) rating.

The IP rating is used to determine the degree of protection given to the enclosures of electrical or technology equipment against intrusion of foreign matters (i.e. tools, dirt, dust, fingers, etc.) and moisture. It is composed of two numbers – the first referring to the rate of protection against solid objects and the second is the rate against liquids. The higher the number, the better the protection it has.
