Advertising has been around for a long time. Back in the day, companies used posters to promote an event, a product, or a service. Fast forward to 2016 and you’ll see plenty of advertising tools aside from posters. Through technology, we are now experiencing new marketing methods as well as improved traditional advertising tools. One example is digital billboard; through innovation, the traditional billboard was improved and now, LED billboard is used for advertising in the Philippines.

The application of LED is not limited to billboards. These days, LED is also used for illuminating light boxes. Although this is not as famous an advertising material as LED billboards are, it has its own advantages. If you are going to be using posters in your advertising campaign, an LED light box can be beneficial for you because it can turn a plain poster into an attention-grabbing display. Before you skip to the store to buy one, there are things you should know. One of this is the difference between edge-lit and backlit light boxes.

What’s an Edge-Lit Light Box?

An LED light box use light-emitting diodes instead of fluorescent for illumination. The difference between the two types of light boxes – edge-lit and backlit – can be found in the structure of the light box itself. As its name suggests, an edge-lit light box has light-emitting diodes on the sides of its frame, which shines its light sideways. This indirectly lights the poster on the box.

This has its advantages; for one, since the light bulbs are only located on the sides, it won’t severely affect your monthly electric bill. Despite this, you have to watch out because this type of light box can sometimes lead to a bit of glowing on the sides of the display. One way to avoid this is by using diffusion paper. Although this doesn’t always hide the slight glow, it can reduce it.

You have to mind the size of the edge-lit light box that you will purchase because it will determine the diffusion of light on your poster. Remember that the bulbs in an edge-lit light box are located on the sides of the box only. This means that the larger your light box is, the farther the LED bulbs are from the center of the box. It might lead to poor dissemination of light in the middle part of the light box, making it look dimmer.

What’s a Backlit Light Box?

While an edge-lit light box has LED bulbs situated on the side, a backlit light box has LED bulbs across the box’s whole back panel. In addition, instead of beaming light sideways, the LED on this type of light box faces forward.

In terms of energy consumption, backlit might be more expensive compared to its counterpart. Since it uses several more bulbs compared to edge-lit light boxes, it makes a bigger impact on your electric bill. Despite this, a backlit LED light box is still more energy efficient compared to fluorescent light boxes.

Since a backlit light box has bulbs across its whole panel, it is better when it comes to illuminating posters. Its light distribution is also better which means that you won’t have to worry about dim spots at the center of the light box. Although its design might be bulkier compared to an edge-lit light box, you’ll find that it is easier to change the bulbs of a backlit light box.

In comparison, the edge-lit light boxes in the market normally won’t allow bulb replacements. This means that you’ll have to totally replace the whole light box once the lights are obsolete.

Using a light box to illuminate you poster is one of the best ways to make your ad more appealing to the public. It will surely make your display stand out among the rest! Despite this, don’t just rush to the store without knowing the difference between an edge-lit light box and a backlit light box. Both have its advantages and disadvantages so make sure to choose wisely.

In a rapidly changing world where progress and advancements are taking center stage, technology is king, and it has absolutely no intention of dethroning itself anytime soon. One of the examples of this constant change is our penchant for replacing everything with screens. This is especially evident here in the Philippines – in particular, the advertising industry. Once upon a time, advertisers used to completely rely on printed material to promote their campaigns. Since then, LED screens in the Philippines and digitized media have overtaken it due to the latter’s more versatile nature.

LED screens are visual displays which use light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and work by manipulating its light (or in some cases, a liquid crystal display) in order to form the images one sees on the screen.

Easily Catch People’s Attention through LED Screen Billboards

Images produced in this manner are usually crisp, vivid, and infinitely colorful, due in part to the LED’s natural ability to shine brightly without consuming too much electricity. Digital billboards are also extra eye-catching and are more capable of displaying a wider array of varying dynamic content, in addition to also being able to render more colors. Coupled with moving elements and animations, it’s a surefire way for one’s ad to attract potential customers by drawing their attention almost immediately.

This makes them ideal for use in outdoor locations that include but are not limited to store signages, destination signages, billboards, posters, and the like because they possess greater readability as opposed to the traditional printed versions of these materials. It also doesn’t hurt that LED screens are extremely affordable, and in fact, they actually help save money in the long run. Some of its other advantages over printed media include being able to loop multiple ads, the ability to change content very quickly, resistance to normal wear and tear (unlike vinyl), and perhaps best of all, not having printing or installation costs.

LED Video Wall vs. Projector
01 / 29 / 16

Plenty of devices uses light emitting diode technology to serve their objectives. Among them is LED billboard, commonly used for advertising in the Philippines. Another example of devices that use the LED technology is video walls. In corporate meetings or events, LED video walls can be useful in displaying high-resolution infographics to a wide audience. Its function can be compared to that of a projector.

A projector is a small device that is used to project computer generated images onto a flat surface – like a wall or white board, for instance. Usually, you can find this in universities, professors use them during discussions or lectures. Some of you are probably wondering: if LED video walls and projectors have basically the same function, which is better? If you are torn between buying a projector or a video wall for office use, check the comparison below.

Comparing the brightness of LED video walls and projectors can be tricky. This is mostly because their lights are measured differently. The LED light is measured in NIT (measurement of direct light) while a projector’s light is measured in lux (measurement of reflected light). To help you understand, 1 NIT is equal to 3.426 lux. This means that a lot of LUX is needed to achieve the brightness that LED video walls to provide.

In any case, a projector’s brightness fades faster than an LED video wall’s. In a year or so, its brightness would have gone down to 70% of its original illumination. Meanwhile, you can expect that an LED video wall’s brightness will remain in top condition even after a year. This is because LED video walls use only at least 20% to 30% of its brightness capability.

Image Quality

Both video walls and projectors can be used to display images, text, or videos. The question is, between the two, who can provide a better image quality? Almost every display device nowadays is capable of exhibiting high definition content. While this is true for both LED video walls and projectors, the latter is still limited with regards to this aspect.

Once the bulb of your projector starts to become obsolete, the quality of the images it projects starts to deteriorate as well. In comparison, an LED video wall can continually display high-quality images, text, and videos without any worries.

When reviewing the costs of two devices, don’t just rely on the initial cost. If you want to know which product is a much better investment in terms of budget, you have to look ahead and factor in the costs that you might acquire for either of those gadgets in the future. Before anything else though, start with the initial cost. Upfront, an LED video wall will probably cost you more than a projector. This means that at first look, a projector might be the cheaper option between the two.

Now, start factoring in the added expenses, beginning with maintenance. As discussed above, the brightness of a projector starts to wear down around its first year. If you want to get it back to 100%, you’ll have to replace the bulb every year. In addition to that, you’ll probably have to replace the projector’s light engine after year 3; and then again on the sixth year.

On the other hand, you don’t have to replace any bulb or light engine when it comes to LED video walls. Instead, you have to replace its modules. Don’t worry though because this is not bound to happen until maybe year 4. The number of modules that you have to replace will increase by years 7 and 10. Despite this fact, it’s still cheaper to replace modules than bulbs and light engines.

The energy consumption will also fall under additional expenses. Between the two, you’ll probably save more money with video walls, in terms of this aspect. LED video walls only need half of the power that projectors need to be able to function.  Lastly, don’t forget that the average life span of an LED video wall is 12 years. In comparison, a projector’s average life span is around 5 years.

Between projectors and LED video walls, the latter is a better option. LED video walls don’t just provide superior brightness and image quality, it’s also cost efficient. With its many advantageous features such as energy efficiency, long life span, and durability, you’ll surely find LED video walls the superior choice between the two.

Tips from Your LED Supplier: Comparing LED Light box to Fluorescent Light box

In advertising, it’s not enough to produce ads. If you want a successful campaign, your ads have to be noticed by the public. Posters, for instance, have been an advertising tool for a long time. Up until now, companies still use them to market their products and services. If hundreds of brands use posters to promote their brand, how will you stand out? There are different ways, but you can start by purchasing a light box from your LED supplier in the Philippines.

A light box is a flat box with one transparent side. You can place your poster inside it and, through LED or fluorescent, illuminate your advertisement. Basically, it can turn a simple poster into an attention-grabbing display! Before you rush out to buy a light box though, you have to know which you prefer first: LED light box or fluorescent light box. Compare the two and then make a decision.

In terms of stability, there’s a huge difference between LED and fluorescent light boxes. If you buy a fluorescent light box, you have to accept that you’ll have to replace its lights every few years. That’s not the case with an LED light box at all. Plus, it needs less energy and less heat! This means that maintaining an LED light box will probably be easier compared to maintaining its counterpart.

It is important that the light box that you’ll be buying is bright and has good light distribution. Otherwise, what’s the point of buying one, right? In the past, fluorescent light has always beaten LED when it comes to brightness. Though, that is not the case now. Currently, constant innovations have allowed LED to compete with fluorescent – so much so that it is now equal (if not more superior) to fluorescent in terms of illumination.

Durability is one of the important factors to consider when buying a light box. There’s no use in buying a cheap light box if you’ll have to spend a lot of money because it’s not sturdy enough.

An LED light box uses light emitting diodes for its illumination and LED has been proven to be durable. In comparison, the bulbs that fluorescent light boxes use can be very fragile. Since they are fragile, you might have to replace them more than you would like, so get your budget ready.

Life Span

It’s no secret that LED light has a long life span. That means that if you buy a light box that uses light emitting diodes for illumination, you probably won’t have to worry about buying a replacement for several years. The question now is whether fluorescent can compete with that or not.

Unfortunately, the answer is no. Fluorescent cannot compare with the 100,000 hours that LED light box can provide you.

The cost is probably the most important factor when buying a light box. After all, some people would readily dismiss all the other factors such as brightness, life span, and durability, if the product is expensive. Hopefully, you are not one of these people, especially because an LED light box has a more expensive apparent budget compared to the fluorescent light box.

Wait, what?! Before we proceed further, you have to know the definition of the apparent budget first and how it differs from the true budget. Apparent budget refers to the initial cost of purchase – meaning the price tag of the light box. On the other hand, true budget refers to the cost wherein other expenses are factored in, like maintenance and energy consumption costs, for instance.

Initially, you’d think that an LED light box is more costly because of its apparent budget. Despite this, when you consider its features like its brightness, durability, and life span, you’ll realize that its true budget might be lower compared to the fluorescent light box.

This means that an LED light box might be cheaper in the long run. In comparison, the fluorescent light box has a cheaper apparent budget. In spite of this, when you factor in its maintenance costs and energy consumption, you might find that it has a higher true budget.

When it comes to buying a light box, you have to consider every aspect before making a purchase. In terms of cost, make sure that you are not investing on the wrong product by choosing something that has a low apparent budget, but later on proves to be more expensive.

An LED light box might have a higher apparent budget, but it’s true budget reveals that it is more advantageous compared to its counterpart.

The Difference Between 4K and UHD

Once in a while, a promising technology that proves to be beneficial in so many ways emerges in the market. This technology will be used in different innovations and sold to consumers. One example of this is LED display. LED screen is utilized in the Philippines to serve several purposes such as in advertisements, corporate events, marketing strategies, education purposes, and information dissemination.

There are different screen displays in the market, two of which are 4K and UHD. At times, people go out and purchase a display without even knowing which is best suited for their needs. Before buying a screen display, try to understand the difference between 4K and UHD first.

What is a 4K Display?

People seem to confuse 4K with UHD and vice versa. You have probably come across an article where the writer pertains to 4K and UHD as if they are one and the same.

The 4k display is a professional production, a standard developed by the cinema. It has a resolution of 4096 by 2160 (horizontal: vertical) at an aspect ratio of 1.9:1– the aspect ratio in which most films are shot.

The term 4K was born because of the Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI), a group of motion picture studios. 4K refers to several things, one of which is a resolution. Its resolution of 4096 by 2160 is four times the previous digital editing standard. In addition, 4K also pertains to the fact that the horizontal pixel count of its specs is around four thousand.

What is UHD?

UHD is sometimes called as Ultra HD or Ultra High Definition and it operates at a slightly lower resolution. While 4K is a cinema standard, Ultra High Definition is a broadcast standard. This screen display is created using the standard HDTV aspect ratio of 16:9 (around 1.78:1) and has a resolution of 3840 by 2160.

Ultra High Definition is like the upgraded version of a full HD – which has a resolution of 3840 by 2160. It has two variants – 3840 by 2160 and then  7680 by 4320. Sometimes, these two are referred to as 4K UHD (for the former) and 8K UHD (for the latter). This might be one of the reasons why UHD displays are sometimes referred to as 4K screens even if the resolution is not 4096 by 2160.

4K and UHD

In truth, even if there is a difference between the screen resolutions of 4K and UHD displays, it doesn’t necessarily affect your viewing experience.  4K content is still perfectly viewable in UHD displays. Also, there are plenty of materials that are not shot in 4K content.

There are several standards needed for you to truly enjoy watching 4K. Aside from owning a 4K display, you also need 4K content. This means encoding your content based on the following format: JPEG2000, bitrate of up to 250 Mbps, and 12-bit 4:4:4 color depth.

4K and UHD are different from one another despite being marketed as the same thing. Despite this fact, getting either of the display does not necessarily affect your viewing experience. In the end, they’re both upgrades from the basic HD displays and can serve your purpose effectively.

Know Your LED Display: The Difference Between Capacitive and Resistive Display
01 / 19 / 16

A few years ago, LED display was a new comer in the Filipino market. After several years, it finally gained traction and wedged itself in the lives of millions of Filipinos. From televisions to smart phones, billboards, computer screens, and even interactive kiosks, LED display has truly become prolific in the Philippines.

The touch screen technology is one of the most popular display technologies used in market today. In fact, both smart phones and interactive kiosks use this technology for their respective functions. Despite this fact, phones and kiosks sometimes use a different touch screen display. A touch screen display can be capacitive or resistive. Check the difference between the two to know more about touch screen technology.

What is Capacitive Display?

Between the two screen display technologies, capacitive display was developed first. Then, almost 10 years after its origin, resistive touch screen display was created. A capacitive touch screen display is comprised of 2 layers of glass, separated by space. These are coated by a conductor called Indium Tin Oxide (ITO).

How does it work? Upon pressing your finger on the screen display, the electrostatic field changes.  As soon as the change in the electrical field is made, a processor will determine the location where you pressed the screen. Basically, the electrical properties in the human body are used to operate a device with a capacitive screen display.

This means, though, that you cannot use gadgets with capacitive screens while you have gloves on or with a stylus that’s not capacitive. Despite that minor limit, it has a lot of advantages – one of which is durability. With resistive screen displays, frequently-used areas start to wear down after numerous uses. This is not the case with capacitive screens which – through constant innovations – are becoming more rugged and resistant to scratches and other damages.

What is Resistive Display?

Like capacitive screens, a resistive display is made up of several layers. Unlike capacitive displays though, only one of its layers is made up of glass. The topmost layer of a resistive display is made up of flexible plastic, and like capacitive screens, space separates these two layers. Each side of the glass and plastic layers are coated with ITO. Resistive display is designed in such a way that the coated parts are facing each other even with the gap between them.

How does it work? Unlike capacitive screens, resistive displays do not make use of our bodies’ electrical properties. Instead, as its name suggests, it depends on resistance. Upon pressing a device’s resistive display, you are pressuring its top layer to meet the adjacent layer. Once the two coated sides touch, voltage passes through, and your device ends up reading this as a touch in that location.

This means that you can use anything to input information in your device if it has resistive screen.

You can use your fingers, you can wear gloves, use a stylus – anything as long as it creates pressure on the screen’s first layer. It has some disadvantages though like it doesn’t allow multi-touch gestures. Also, images displayed in resistive screens are less sharp compared to capacitive screens.

These days, touch screen technology is adapted in so many devices – from laptops to mobile phones, and interactive kiosks. Since capacitive and resistive displays are prominently used in many devices nowadays, it’s important to understand them to help you figure out how to operate a certain device based on its touch screen type.

Myths About LED Signage
01 / 13 / 16

There are always new trends in advertising, and to be able to compete, you have to learn how to adapt to those changes. One thing that’s becoming prominent lately is the use of LED for digital advertising purposes in the Philippines. Several companies are now including the use of different LED displays to catch the attention of their target market.

While some entrepreneurs are more than willing to include LED advertising in their marketing campaigns, some are a little hesitant. In some cases, people misunderstand facts about digital displays due to unreliable sources. For instance, you have probably heard a lot of people talk about LED signage – some of which are negative. If you want to know if you can really use them for a successful campaign, you need to debunk these myths about LED signage.

Myth No. 1: LED Signage is Difficult to See in Broad Daylight

The belief that LED signage is difficult to see in the daylight is false. The traffic lights that adorn our streets and highways are actually made of light-emitting diodes as well. Yep, that’s right. The same material used for LED signage is used in traffic lights. This means that it’s impossible that one can see traffic lights but not LED signage.

Usually, this myth is followed by another myth: that LED signage is too distracting. Remember that LED displays are not just used as signage; it’s sometimes used as billboards and even interactive kiosks. They are often located in public places. This means that if they are too distracting or the leading cause of car accidents, then it probably would have been banned. As it is, everyone’s still free to use it which means that it’s safe.

Myth No. 2: LED Signage is Forever

There is a lot of talk regarding the life span of LED displays. If you are planning to buy an LED signage, then perhaps you have done a bit of research and have come across an article or two about the life span of LED displays.

The thing is, for some people, the statement “LED displays are long-lasting” means “LED displays will last forever”. This is nothing but a myth. Like a lot of things, digital displays have a definite life span. For a lot of manufacturers, this life span is 100, 000 hours and, depending on when you use it, it can last for more than 20 years!

Myth No. 3: LED Signage Are Too Expensive

The truth is not all LED signage are priced the same. Depending on some factors, they can be cheap or expensive.

If you are looking for an LED signage as big as a football stadium, that might cost you a hefty amount of money.  But if you are aiming for something smaller, then you can probably find an LED display that won’t cost you that much. So trust that no matter how much your budget is, there is probably an LED signage for you.

It’s time to consider including LED signage in your advertising campaigns. But before you do so, make sure that you understand every aspect regarding digital displays to avoid future problems. Hopefully, the list above helped clarify some of the misconceptions surrounding LED signage.

Several brands use LED billboard for advertising purposes in the Philippines. But digital displays are used for other things as well like relaying important information, endorsing inspirational messages, or even promoting an upcoming event. Truly, LED billboards have come a long way since its invention. This innovation – which was born only a few years ago – is now a widely used solution for a variety of things!

However, despite its rising popularity, there are still people who remain unaware about the mechanics of LED displays. These displays have two types of LED panels, one of which is SMD. If you are planning to purchase one of these incredible billboards, then it’s important to know all about SMD LEDs and its advantages. This will help you decide which brand to choose and which LED display to buy.

What is SMD Panel?

Surface-mounted device or SMD is one of the two types of LED panels, the other type is called discrete panels. The main difference between the two lies in the way the light-emitting diodes are placed in the chipboard. With SMD technology, a machine is used to mount the LED into the chipset to create SMD LED screens. Meanwhile, discrete LED screens are created by soldering the LEDs into the chipboard.
SMD screens make use of small LEDs placed closely together. This gives SMD displays a smaller pixel pitch and a higher resolution. Recently, more and more LED screens are using the SMD technology.

Advantages of SMD LED Display

SMD LED displays are mostly used indoors. However, outdoor billboards are also now adopting the same technology. Choosing an SMD LED billboard has a lot of advantages:

It gives high brightness level and good lighting distribution. But despite its superior illuminating feature, it uses low voltage and current, resulting in low power consumption.

In addition, surface-mounted device LED billboard offers a wide viewing angle both horizontally and vertically. This is especially helpful if you are planning to place your billboard in a large area with a huge amount of foot traffic. And when it comes to consistency, SMDs are clearly better. SMD screens will surely provide your audience with high brightness and color consistency at every angle! This is a feat that not all displays can achieve.

The contrast level of SMD LED screens is an improvement compared to standard LED screens. Because of its unique design, the illuminated area is small and the dark area is larger, making the contrast ratio better.

SMD LED billboards is lighter compared to other screen displays. Its cabinet is light and sturdy enough not to be easily deformed. On top of that, it’s very easy to assemble and install SMD displays. And lastly, surface-mounted device LED billboards to have a longer life span – it can last for up to 100,000 hours!

It is important to be aware of the product you want to buy before making any purchase. This statement applies even when availing LED billboards. Before choosing a brand or deciding which display to buy, make sure that you know the necessary information about LED billboards first. With that said, surface-mounted device LED billboards to have a lot of advantages over the standard LED billboard. So make sure to get yourself an SMD LED display now!

Digital boards can be used for several purposes. In fact, when it comes to advertising in the Philippines, LED billboard has a lot of uses. You probably already know how LED boards can be used for advertisements as well as signages. But do you know that aside from that, you can also use them for events?

LED billboard can be beneficial for advertising your event. Whether you are launching a new product or holding a corporate event, you can use digital displays to help boost your event. Here are some tips on using LED billboard for advertising your event:

Tailor Your Messages

One of the things you should consider before deciding on the content of your LED display is the event itself. Knowing the type of event that will be held will allow you to identify who your target audience is. Only then can you tailor your message for the content. Digital displays can be attention-grabbing but if the content is not relevant to the event or to your audience, then it’s useless. You have to make a content that will surely keep your audience engaged.

Provide Real Time Information

Using digital displays, you can provide your attendees with real time information. Keep your guests updated about what’s happening in different areas of the event by posting live updates through LED displays. You can also use your displays to live stream some parts of the events or stream social media feeds regarding the event in real time. This is sure to encourage engagement among your guests.

Place the Display Strategically

It’s not enough to provide your guests with engaging content, though. You also have to mind the placement of the digital board. Make sure to place it somewhere that will ensure maximum visibility. Like the center of the room for example. Or if you don’t want it getting in the way of the attendees, you can hang it above the stage. That way, people can still see the LED display without occupying space on the floor.

Utilize for Brand Awareness

Events are a good time to improve brand awareness. So make sure to utilize your LED displays for this purpose as well. Make sure that your logo is visible in all areas of the event using digital displays, putting your brand front and center. If your guests are already enjoying the event, there’s no harm in reminding them who made the occasion possible in the first place.

Or if you can, use delegated digital displays that guests can use as interactive maps. This will surely leave a positive impact on your event’s attendees.
